Who Was The Second Prime Minister Of India – India’s Second Prime Minister
The second Prime Minister of independent and republican India was Lal Bahadur Shastri, who served the nation as Prime Minister for 1 year and 216 days.
Apart from being the Prime Minister, Shastri also held the charge of the country’s Foreign Ministry (9 June 1964 to 18 July 1964) and Home Ministry (4 April 1961 to 29 August 1963). He was a leader of the Indian National Congress and took part in the Indian Independence Movement.
Shastri ji was a source of inspiration for all the countrymen, as well as successfully led the country during the Indo-Pak war of 1965, along with this, he gave the passionate slogan of “Jai Jawan Jai Kisan” to the country struggling with food shortage.
He was born on 2 October 1904 in Varanasi, Central Province of British Raj (present-day Uttar Pradesh). During his tenure, he died on 11 January 1966 in Tashkent (present-day Uzbekistan), Soviet Union. It is believed that he died of heart attack, although even today the mystery of his death remains an unsolved puzzle. Shastri ji was the first person to be awarded the Bharat Ratna posthumously.
